Basic Care and Repair |

Vacuum Weekly
Contrary to what their hand-knotted nature might suggest, Persian
rugs are very easy to care for. To keep the dust and the Moth away,
a weekly vacuuming is essential. Be sure to set your vacuum cleaner
to “low brush” and vacuum in the direction of the lie
of the pile, not against it. In addition, the back of the rug must
be vacuumed to remove the dust that has settled at the base of the
pile. |

Limit
the Sun Exposure
Though most dyes, vegetable and synthetic, are rather resistant to
fading, long exposures to direct sun can cause fading or bleeding
of colors. Use curtains to filter the light and reduce the bleaching
effect of sun. In cases where a portion of rug is under furniture,
and therefore not exposed to light, it is recommended to rotate the
rug once every 3-4 months to maintain an even exposure to light. |

Keep
the Water Away
Persian rugs have either wool or silk pile over a foundation of Wool,
Cotton, or silk. While silk is very resistant to water, both wool
and cotton can be weakened or rotted if the rug is repeatedly exposed
to water. Most water damages are caused by potted plants overrun with
water, using rug over damp floors such as cement, Basement floods,
or leaking appliances or pipes |

Keep
the Animals Away
In general it is best to keep all animals off your beautiful rugs.
They can cause irreparable damage by chewing or scratching the rug
or leaving behind hard to remove stains. Light rubbing of Mothballs
around the edges of the rug will help keep the animals away. |

Removing
Stains
Minor food stains can be removed by gently washing the spotted area
with a soft brush and dishwashing liquid. Dampen a clean sponge and
apply a small amount of dishwashing liquid. Use soft circular strokes
until the spot is removed. Using a clean dry towel dry the washed
area in the direction of the lie of the pile. |

Repair
Repairs by a skilled craftsman are often necessary if a rug has an
extensive water damage, burnt, tear, or uneven wear. A skillful repair
will not affect the value of the carpet and helps extend the life
of a carpet. |
